I’m a USAC Level 1 Professional Cycling Coach specializing in endurance cycling events. I coach competitive cyclists across the United States who are targeting centuries, gran fondos, and gravel races.
What Endurance Cycling Coaching Covers
Centuries, gran fondos, and gravel races all demand sustained aerobic output over long durations, often with variable terrain and self-supported fueling. My coaching builds the specific fitness and skills to finish strong and race competitively, not just complete the distance.
Aerobic Base and Endurance Fitness
The foundation of endurance performance is a well-developed aerobic base. I build progressive training blocks that develop your threshold power, fat oxidation efficiency, and the muscular endurance needed to hold pace over four to eight hours of riding.
Fueling and Pacing Strategy
Most cyclists underperform in long events because of pacing errors or fueling failures, not lack of fitness. I work with athletes on event-specific pacing and nutrition strategies so the fitness we build in training translates to the finish line.
Climbing and Variable Terrain
Gran fondos and gravel events often involve significant climbing and unpredictable surfaces. Training includes terrain-specific work to develop the power-to-weight fitness and technical confidence for long climbs and off-road conditions.
My Credentials
I hold a USAC Level 1 coaching certification, the highest level issued by USA Cycling. I have been coaching competitive cyclists since 2006. I am based in San Diego, California, and coach athletes online across the United States.
How Endurance Coaching Works
All coaching is conducted online through TrainingPeaks. I write individualized weekly training plans built around your target events, review data files from key workouts, and adjust the plan based on your performance and schedule. You can message me directly between check-ins.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a power meter for endurance coaching?
No. I work with athletes using both power meters and heart rate monitors. What matters is that training is structured around objective data and properly calibrated zones.
Can you coach me for a specific gran fondo or gravel race?
Yes. I build training plans around your A-priority events. If you have a target event, I structure the training blocks to peak your fitness for that date.
How much time do I need to train for a century or gran fondo?
It depends on your current fitness and goals. Most of my endurance athletes train between 6 and 14 hours per week. I build plans that fit your schedule rather than requiring an arbitrary training volume.
Do you coach gravel racing specifically?
Yes. Gravel racing has its own demands, including variable terrain, longer durations, and self-supported fueling. I address those specifics within the broader training program.
